Who controls art?

Who controls art? a video, paintings and installation pose that question, along with some possible answers, among them government and capitalism. (Did you know light-colored paintings sell better than dark-colored ones?) In addition, this pugilistic piece of streaming provocation beseeches us to check out a new exhibit at Blend Studio, featuring works by Andee Rudloff, Lindsay Bailey and Allie Sultan, and vote for our choice during this months' Art Crawl. Floats Like a Butterfly Stings Like a Bee: Who Controls Art? in the Nashville Scene

Blend Studio co-founder Ben Vitualla has taken on more of his gallery's programming duties, and now he finds himself with a fight on his hands. This month's collaboration between local artists Andee Rudloff and Lindsey Bailey and filmmaker Allie Sultan is a return to form for Blend, and these ladies are ready to rumble. Composed of a number of multimedia pieces and a video installation, Floats Like a Butterfly Stings Like a Bee: Who controls Art? fits in nicely with Blend's community-conscious ethos, engaging viewers in a dialogue about creative control. Saturday's audience can purchase specially printed wooden nickels to cast their vote. The nickels can be kept as souvenirs or donated to a number of creative causes.

Thank you for responding to the 2011 NAEA National Convention Call for Presentations. It is my pleasure to inform you that your presentation, Innovative community mural project initiating creative space & dialogue, was accepted for inclusion in the program for the 2011 NAEA National Convention in Seattle, Washington, March 17-20. The specific time and date of your presentation will be sent to you following completion of our scheduling process.

This session is scheduled as a Performance, an opportunity to present arts-based performance to provoke thoughtful engagement, reflection, and dialogue related to a topic or issue; 25-, 50-, and 90-minute sessions. Regular theatre seating.

NAEA received a record number of presentations this year and, once again, relied upon a scoring rubric for the peer review and assessment process. The peer review process requires careful thought and consideration in terms of Content, Clarity of Purpose, Suitability/Relevance, Quality, and overall program balance. The overall caliber of this year’s presentations was excellent—making the acceptance of just over 900 sessions (approximately 62%) highly competitive. The average score for accepted presentations was (out of a possible 15).

Tennessee's Youth Mural Project, facilitated by Andee

Pictured are the artists at work on Tennessee largest Youth art project, facilitated by Andee Rudloff. Over 50 youth artists participated in the project. The 240 foot mural project will be installed along Demonbreun Street in Downtown Nashville in November 2010 and will remain up until 2013 or until the completion of Nashville's convention center, the Music City Center. Upon completion of the Music City Center, the mural will be installed inside the center.

Andee Rudloff is asking for bids on her painting to help raise money for Flood Relief. The painting is titled Exploring Lotus Lane and is 18.5 inches by 24.5 inches. Bidding on the painting will close on Friday, May 14th at midnight. The highest bidder wins. There is no starting bid.

All money raised will go to the Community Foundation for flood relief in the region.

2010 Capitol Arts Alliance exhibition

Andee's exhibition at the Capitol Arts Alliance will run August 13 - September 7, 2010, and will be part of the August Gallery Hop in Downtown Bowling Green, KY.

Rudloff appointed to Kentucky Arts Council board

New members appointed to Kentucky Arts Council board

FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Kentucky Arts Council is pleased to announce the appointment by Gov. Steve Beshear of three new board members, Henrietta Kemp, Josephine Richardson and Andrea Rudloff.

Kemp is a retired educator from Hopkinsville and a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa education sorority, Christian County Extension Service board, Christian County Literacy Council executive board, and serves on the local United Way Campaign Cabinet. She is currently the secretary of the Hopkinsville Arts Guild and has served as its president in the past.

Richardson owns the Courthouse Cafe and Cozy Corner in Whitesburg where she has resided since 1969. She was a pioneer in establishing and developing Appalshop and has used the arts to advance economic, educational and community development in Appalachia. Richardson previously served as chairwoman of the Kentucky Arts Council board from 1987 to 1994.

Rudloff is an arts administrator from Bowling Green. She is also a visual artist and a member of the National Art Education Association, Ballroom Marfa - Contemporary Arts. She is a member of Americans for the Arts and participates in its Public Arts Network and Emerging Leaders groups.

Along with the new appointments, Wilma Brown has been reappointed for an additional four-year term. The terms for Rudloff, Kemp, and Richardson will also expire in four years, on February 1, 2014.

Art Education Task Force-Exceptional Arts 2010

Andee is one of the Art Education Task Force educators working collaboratively with a wide-range of students in Bowling Green, KY, in theatre, dance, music and visual art. Bowling Green educator and actress Beth Wallace serves as the program's coordinator. All of the young artists will be featured in an art showcase at The Public Theatre of Kentucky on May 2nd and honored at the Bowling Green Hot Rods game on May 14th.

The Education Art Task Force is sponsored by Flora Stuart and supported by The Public Theatre of Kentucky, Western Kentucky University, Mathnasium of Bowling Green (KY), the Bowling Green Hot Rods and several professional artists from the area.

Cake Conversation in Tennessee

Dollar General sponsored an art night for families at Millersville Elementary in Tennessee. Cake conversation was one of the art-making and dialogue opportunities for families. Many cakes were created and discussions centered around the ideas of color and layering. Cake conversation is an easy way to encourage people of all ages to be fearless when it comes to art.

NY show of country CAKes

andee will be part of a show in Long Island, NY, titled World of Imagination. It opens March 6th and will run for the month of March. The five - 12 inch by 12 inch paintings feature CAKes based on five famous Grand Ole Opry & country music stars - Bill Monroe, Dolly Parton/Dollywood, Patsy Cline, BR549 and Ernest Tubb.
