Recycled Love: An Art Opening from Kentucky Museum Educator of the Year, Andee Rudloff

The Green Gallery at Turnip Green Creative Reuse presents Recycled Love by 2013 Kentucky Museum Educator of the Year, Andee Rudloff.  The opening takes place at 535 4th Ave. South, Nashville, TN 37210 on Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. This community event is free, open to the public and features the opening gallery reception as well as an Open Studio at Platetone.  The Green Gallery features a monthly sustainable art series, showcasing artists who create art through recycling and up-cycling materials.

Andee Rudloff – Recycled Love will be featured at Turnip Green Creative Reuse's Green Gallery from February 18 – March 15, 2016.  We will also be hosting a closing reception on March 15, 2016 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.  Our neighbors at Platetone Printmaking Cooperative will feature an Open Studio where attendees have the chance to create and take home their own work of art. 

Andrea D. Rudloff (Andee) is a professional artist, consultant and educator. She has more than 20 years of experience as an art administrator, curator and professional artist including murals and exhibitions in Bowling Green, Ky., Nashville, Tenn., New York, N.Y., Taipei, Taiwan and other national and international exchanges.  She uses color and drawn symbols to create a world where light-heartedness rules and where rules are undermined is created.

She currently serves on the Boards of the Kentucky Arts Council and Tanne Foundation.  Her past experiences includes, serving as the Education and Visual Art Director for the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC) in Bowling Green, KY.  She served as the community engagement manager, educator and curator at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville, TN.  Rudloff has also served as curator for the Nashville International Airport’s Arts at the Airport Foundation, Curb Records’ Johnny Cash Collection and facilitator of the At Home Project with Judy Chicago.

ABOUT TURNIP GREEN CREATIVE REUSE

Turnip Green Creative Reuse (TGCR) is a nonprofit that diverts usable material from our landfill for creative endeavors through innovative programming including workshops, a retail store, community education and a green art gallery featuring art made from reusable materials. TGCR has partnered with many of Nashville’s on programming and projects, including Artober, Pet Community Center, Nashville Public Library system, Metro Schools, ZeroLandfill, Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, Metro Arts Commission, WRLT’s Live on the Green, Earth Day, Now Playing Nashville, Southern Festival of Books, The Hermitage Fall Fest, University School, Untitled and Platetone Printmaking Cooperative. TGCR will have four areas of service: a retail store, education/outreach, artist studios, and a gallery. It will provide a neutral place for artists, educators, and any creative person to connect.

What is a Creative Reuse Center?
It’s an organization that specializes in collecting and distributing unwanted industrial and residential materials for the purposes of either turning reusable materials into creative projects, or providing needed supplies to arts organizations and public schools. Reuse centers are a valuable resource to artists, educators, families and businesses. There are dozens of creative reuse centers around the country. Turnip Green Creative Reuse is Tennessee’s first creative reuse organization.

Murals with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee

The Bonnaroo Works Fund of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee awarded Big Brothers Big Sisters a grant to fund the creation and painting of two murals sharing the spirit and mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Regional artist Andee Rudloff worked with the youth and their mentors to gather drawings and ideas for the two murals. She created the mural design and a group of Big Brothers Big Sisters participants painted and completed them.  The murals will be displayed in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee main office on 1704 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville.

For the past five years, The Bonnaroo Works Fund has supported regional and national organizations with the mission of making communities healthy in areas of the arts, education, and environmental sustainability, with the goal of local reinvestment and asset building for the communities where they live, work, and play.

Providing services to all of Middle Tennessee, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee served 1,513 children in 2014.

Dragon-Hillsboro Village success

Located across the street from the Belcourt Theatre with support from Vanderbilt University and the Hillsboro-West End Neighborhood Association, the mural features new signage lettering and new colors on the dragon. The refresh looks contemporary but both the colors and the lettering are actually Art Deco era meaning the dragon sports colors that were popular in 1920, which is the year Hillsboro Village was established, and the year women earned the right to vote...a bright year for pioneers! #dostuff

Halloween painting party in Hillsboro Village-Nashville, Tn

 Come paint with me on Halloween… Saturday, October 31, 2015!    The Dragon Mural has been an important part of the Hillsboro Village community since 1995.  Originally created by Adam Randolph and David Glick,  and now 20 years later,  it is time for the Dragon to get a new coat!

 And that is where I come in… I have been asked to create an original artwork commissioned by Vanderbilt with support from businesses in Hillsboro Village.  I am so thrilled to contribute to a neighborhood originally established in 1920… The year women earned the right to vote!

 The painting party begins at 9:30 AM on Saturday, October 31, 2015… Join us at the Dragon mural on Belcourt off 21st Ave, right across the street from Pangea and the Belcourt Theatre! Wear your paint clothes...all other materials will be provided. Spend Halloween in the Village!

Car Part Art Workshop featuring painted hubcaps facilitated by artist, educator and Car Part Art curator Andee Rudloff.  The purpose of the Car Part Art exhibition is to encourage the repurposing of car parts into art!

Participants will create one of a kind painted hubcaps to be featured in the National Corvette Museum exhibit, Car Part Art running September 18, 2015-January 8, 2016.  Whimsical creativity meets thrifty pragmatism in a fun way to be green.

MetroArts Thrive-funded Cumberland View Community Mural with Churchwell Museum Magnet Elementary

In, April 2015, artist Andee Rudloff facilitated a mural project that took several months and culminated in a legacy piece within the MDHA community of Cumberland View in Nashville, TN. Gearing up for Summer 2015

So many good things to share about the upcoming summer of art and happenings. Yesterday, I was part of a unique furniture show at the Idea Hatchery, curated by Julie Sola and nearly sold out everything I had to share....Thank you!

I will be the artist-in-residence at Harpeth Hall this week in Nashville, TN, working with several educators and many students on a 20ft by 5ft mural.  I will prepare the Final Report for the Cumberland View Community Mural with Robert Churchwell Museum Magnet Elementary supported in part by Thrive funds from #artsnashville MetroArts...and happy to report the fees covered expenses thankfully!

Next week I will be presenting artists to the Tanne Foundation in New Hampshire and hope to see some artists in the region receive much needed support to continue their important work.

I look forward to spending the summer teaching, exhibiting, painting and serving as a juror for a few professional art centers and exhibitions balanced with lots of stand-up paddleboarding. Updates to come!

Born on Groundhog Day in 2012, American Pharoah is a bay rig with a short tail and a faint star on his forehead with no other white markings. One year ago I was transitioning from art administrator back to independent artist/curator/consultant...and as you might have guessed, I feel like I made a pretty good decision.

Nashville Gallery Crawl at Ground Floor Gallery + Studios...watch the mural coming together!

Andee facilitated a mural at Ground Floor Gallery + Studios during the Nashville Gallery Crawl on Saturday, March 7th, 2015. Gallery owner Janet Yanez and artists in the studio submitted ideas and words creating the iconic images within the mural design. The mural is available for exhibition and is for sale. MTSU film student Beth Casey created a film of the making of the mural. Check it out here.

Andee is excited to be the artist-in-residence at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, TN, March 9-13, 2015.  There will be a reception and mural unveiling Friday, March 13 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and the public is invited.

Andee will also be a featured artist at Montgomery Bell Academy's Endada. Dead Poets Society, the 1989 motion picture that featured Robin Williams, depicts a school patterned after Montgomery Bell Academy, although events in the movie were fictional. Thomas Schulman, who graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in 1968, wrote the movie's screenplay. Robin Williams portrayed a character based on Sam Pickering, one of Schulman's teachers during his MBA education.

The Browsing Room at the Downtown Presbyterian Church presents Radiant Life an exhibition of two artists interpreting the meaning of water through photography and mixed media works from November 1 through December 30, 2014. Stacey will exhibit photographs from some of the world’s most unique neighborhoods. Andee will exhibit new works assembled on varied surfaces, including a 12 foot stand-up paddleboard, expressing her reflections and experiences. 

Andee Rudloff is a professional artist, consultant and educator. She recently served as the Education and Visual Art Director, successfully designing and launching all education, engagement and visual art programming for the newly opened Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC) in Bowling Green, KY. In 2013, the Kentucky Art Education Association named Rudloff Museum Educator of the Year.  She is on the board of trustees for the Tanne Foundation, board of directors for the Kentucky Arts Council and works consistently with non-profits to improve professional opportunities for artists and art educators.
