NEW work by Andee Rudloff, ChicNhair: Hubcaps and Helmets at the University School of Nashville
ChicNhair: Hubcaps and Helmets September 8-October 10, 2014
Reception Friday, September 12, 2014 TIME: 5-7 pm
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 6, 2014)—The University School of Nashville (USN) presentsChicNhair: Hubcaps and Helmets, an exhibition of community art celebrating alternative transportation and collaboration will be on display in USN’s gallery from September 8 through October 10, 2014. Andee will exhibit repurposed hubcaps and artist designed bicycle helmets celebrating Nashville’s unique neighborhoods. Andee truly believes in the value of creative voice and expressing ideas on varied surfaces—the exhibition reception will feature the unveiling of a collaborative mural with the students at USN, boom box bicycles created by Vanderbilt University Professor Mark Hosford and his students, Oasis Bike Workshop, as well as prints from Green Fleet’s Bicycle Bus-a project Andee facilitated with Green Fleet and the Arts and Business Council of Nashville.
Andee Rudloff: Hubcaps and Helmets will feature over 40 new works by Andee Rudloff and a 32 foot by 8 foot mural with the students at USN among other items. Andee will work with the teachers and students at USN during the first week of the exhibition to create the mural. The completed mural will be unveiled at the reception on Friday, September 12th. Oasis Bike Workshop's Mobile Bike Shop can be toured at the reception. Vanderbilt University Professor Mark Hosford’s boom box bicycles will perform at 6:00 p.m. at the reception. More about the boom box bikes can be found here.
The Nashville Arts Magazine wrote, “Rudloff believes that we can’t take the art with us once we are gone, so it is important to give away ownership to the greater populace. As metro councilman Peter Westerholm states, Andee brings an unabashed enthusiasm . . . that leads not only to inspiring a vision toward the end result but makes recruits of unintentional bystanders, making us all stakeholders and advocates. Rudloff has the power to spark ideas and creativity in all of us!”
Andee Rudloff is a professional artist, consultant and educator. She recently served as the Education and Visual Art Director, successfully designing and launching all education, engagement and visual art programming for the newly opened Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC) in Bowling Green, KY. In 2013, the Kentucky Art Education Association named Rudloff Museum Educator of the Year. She is on the board of trustees for the Tanne Foundation, board of directors for the Kentucky Arts Council and works consistently with non-profits to improve professional opportunities for artists and art educators.
Rudloff has multiple projects in the works including community art projects in Kentucky and Tennessee.
For more, visit Andee Rudloff’s website: chicnhair.com
The reception will take place from 5-7p.m. at the University School of Nashville in the Christine Tibbott Center Gallery and is supported by USN including refreshments will be provided by Tin Wings Catering.
This exhibition is supported by the University School of Nashville, art educators Delia Seigenthaler and Emily Holt, Osis Bike Workshop and Dan Furbish, David Holland at Signature Signs,
Hubcap City, Hughes and Coleman, Vanderbilt Department of Fine Art and professor Mark Hosford, Sherwin Williams and friends and family.

Celebrate Flag Day on Saturday, June 14th
Don't forget to take a moment to celebrate FREEDOM and the flag this Saturday! Catch the speedy painter between 1:06 - 1:12 in this music video.
In Waubeka, Wisconsin, in 1885 Bernard John Cigrand a nineteen year old school teacher in a one room school placed a 10” 38 star flag in an inkwell and had his students write essays on what the flag meant to them. He called June 14th the flag’s birthday. Stony Hill School is now a historical site. From that day on Bernard J. Cigrand dedicated himself to inspire not only his students but also all Americans in the real meaning and majesty of our flag.

Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014!
Full of some highs and real painful lows, 2013 was challenging, but I made it! WKU Photojournalism student Shelley Owens shadowed me for the final few days before the holidays when I was really exhausted. Shelley Owens' image features my silhouette as I was preparing the gallery for a tour of A Journey Home. A Journey Home is a photographic exhibition telling the story of Kentucky foster families and children looking for their forever home. The exhibition was organized by SKyPAC, features almost 20 professional photographers in the region and is SKyPAC's first touring exhibition
Onward and upward in 2014! Getting it started right, some of my paintings and the KayBob's mural will be featured in a film, I've been asked to design the stage for Bowling Green's first Idea Festival, and I'm looking into starting an artist retreat and residency space featuring multiple Tiny houses.
Making THINGS happen is my goal for 2014! All the best to everyone in the New Year!

Landfill Art Project
Landfillart is an international effort
encompassing one-thousand-forty-one (1,041) artists to claim a piece of
rusted metal garbage and create fine art. Pictured above is Andee Rudloff's Near Nashville hubcap featuring Bowling Green, KY's Corvette logo on a cake highlighting Bowling Green as the home of Duncan Hines and Corvettes.
The 1,041 pieces of rusted metal are actually old
automobile hub caps from the 1930’s through the 1970’s. Each hub cap,
after being cleaned and primed, is affectionately called a “metal
canvas.” Although most “metal canvases” have been transformed by the
artist using oil or acrylic paint, some have been weaved on, glued or
screwed or welded to, or made into fine sculpture.
Ken Marquis, founder shares...
I have found that the fine artists I have worked with
on this project do not even flinch when looking at this white round disc
of metal canvas. And why should they. Artists from the beginning of
time have used cave walls (Lascaux, France and Altamira, Spain,) walls
of pyramids (Egyptians,) animal skins (American Indians,) etc… as their
canvas. In addition, as a gallery owner for over thirty years, I
maintain that artists, generally speaking, are more ecologically in
touch and environmentally aware. Perhaps that is the reason forty-one
artists readily accepted the challenge and embraced the project.
The project is near completion. We are currently
seeking the final group of artists. It has been evolving from a simple
idea of taking forty-one old rusted hub caps and creating forty-one
pieces of great art. The second phase has already started with the
acquisition of one thousand additional (1000) rusted hub caps which will
be turned into cleaned and primed “metal canvases. The project will
continue with finding one thousand (1000) talented artists who believe
in this project.
The third
phase will involve publishing a book on the project showcasing all one
thousand forty one (1,041) completed “metal canvases.”
An announcement will be made on Earth Day 2013 about the upcoming exhibitions and the final phase which will involve choosing 200 metal canvases that
adequately represent the project and create a traveling show.
The book and traveling show will portray the global art
community's effort to positively impact the environment through
re-purposing previous metal waste into great landfillart.

Peace Jam Mural
On Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Curb Event Center - Belmont University - Nashville, Tn, I was asked to work with Peace Jam participants to create a mural.
The Peace Jam Mural, pictured, is 12ft by 24ft...all of the images were drawn by Peace Jam participants and given to Andee to include in one composition. Andee designed the mural on the large vinyl tarp. The design is based on the participants drawings. The participants painted, after a short discussion about contrasting colors, and the mural was completed in about one hour.
Nobel Peace prize winner Shirin Ebadi even signed the mural!
I heard 2 young women in the closing discussion share, "I'm an artist!" Love it!
Stars Nashville will decide where it will be displayed. www.starsnashville.org
A time lapse video of the mural will be posted soon.

It is always better to give than to receive...Deliciously Happy
One of my favorite art collaborators, Lindsey Bailey, and her students need our help. They need supplies for 12 remaining workshops as well as transportation for the students to attend the gallery reception at Belmont University. At the gallery reception, the student participants can see their work and speak with the people attending the event. Your contribution will also help with culminating event costs, like installation lighting, projection equipment, community invitations and to publish a book, including all of the lesson plans, example artwork, and documentation; and the student, educator, and community responses to the projects. This book will be made available to schools and organizations so that more youth can participate in performance-based workshops.

The way Kickstarter campaigns work...well...if by November 27th the campaign does not reach its $4,000 goal (only $470 NEEDED), it will not be funded AT ALL. I hope you can make a small donation this holiday season to MAKE THINGS HAPPEN!
Happiest of Holidays...thanks for giving!

Singing this holiday season!

Buddy: The best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.
Jovie: Thanks, but I don't sing.
Buddy: Oh, well, it's just like talking, except longer and louder, and you move your voice up and down.
Jovie: I *can* sing, I just choose *not* to sing. Especially in front of other people.
Buddy: If you can sing alone, you sing in front of other people. There's no difference.
Jovie: Actually, there's a BIG difference.
Buddy: No there's not. Wait...
[Starts singing loud and off-key]
Buddy: I'm singing/I'm in a store/and I'm siiiiiingiiiiing!/I'm in a store/and I'm siiiiiingiiiiing!
The Pie Studio is open, by appointment, in Bowling Green, KY! Don't forget ART makes a great gift for the holidays:) The Pie Studio is located at 556 Morris Alley in Bowling Green, KY.

Who controls art?
Who controls art? a video, paintings and installation pose that question, along with some possible answers, among them government and capitalism. (Did you know light-colored paintings sell better than dark-colored ones?) In addition, this pugilistic piece of streaming provocation beseeches us to check out a new exhibit at Blend Studio, featuring works by Andee Rudloff, Lindsay Bailey and Allie Sultan, and vote for our choice during this months' Art Crawl. That would mean we control art, then? Go deeper this Saturday.

Floats Like a Butterfly Stings Like a Bee: Who Controls Art? in the Nashville Scene

Blend Studio co-founder Ben Vitualla has taken on more of his gallery's programming duties, and now he finds himself with a fight on his hands. This month's collaboration between local artists Andee Rudloff and Lindsey Bailey and filmmaker Allie Sultan is a return to form for Blend, and these ladies are ready to rumble. Composed of a number of multimedia pieces and a video installation, Floats Like a Butterfly Stings Like a Bee: Who controls Art? fits in nicely with Blend's community-conscious ethos, engaging viewers in a dialogue about creative control. Saturday's audience can purchase specially printed wooden nickels to cast their vote. The nickels can be kept as souvenirs or donated to a number of creative causes.

I will be a 2011 NAEA presenter in Seattle, WA!!
I just received this...
Thank you for responding to the 2011 NAEA National Convention Call for Presentations. It is my pleasure to inform you that your presentation, Innovative community mural project initiating creative space & dialogue, was accepted for inclusion in the program for the 2011 NAEA National Convention in Seattle, Washington, March 17-20. The specific time and date of your presentation will be sent to you following completion of our scheduling process.
This session is scheduled as a Performance, an opportunity to present arts-based performance to provoke thoughtful engagement, reflection, and dialogue related to a topic or issue; 25-, 50-, and 90-minute sessions. Regular theatre seating.
NAEA received a record number of presentations this year and, once again, relied upon a scoring rubric for the peer review and assessment process. The peer review process requires careful thought and consideration in terms of Content, Clarity of Purpose, Suitability/Relevance, Quality, and overall program balance. The overall caliber of this year’s presentations was excellent—making the acceptance of just over 900 sessions (approximately 62%) highly competitive. The average score for accepted presentations was (out of a possible 15).
In the coming months, a preliminary convention schedule will be available on NAEA’s website. Visit NAEA online at www.arteducators.org for convention updates, schedules, and additional registration information.
Hope to see you there!!!
